As the price of oil increases and this fuel becomes less available, many customers are now discussing the options of wood pellets, taking advantage of a pre-seasonal sale. The people who have changed in the last few years are now making substantial savings in the heating expenses.
Wood pellets are produced in Ireland and have not increased in price when compared to oil or gas. Wood pellet boilers and roomheaters are efficient, using less fuel to generate heat.

Did you know that all new homes have to have a Renewable source of Energy of some sort after the 1st of July 2008. The new Legislation states that anyone looking for Planning Permission after the above date must have either, a Wood Pellet Boiler, or a Solar Panel hot water system, or Geothermal heat pump as part of their planning.
For the people applying in an urban setting Solar Panels will be the easy option as this will require less space and the requirement of a bulk store for 3 to 4 tonnes of pellets and access for a bulk blower lorry can cause problems.

As the price of grain and oil increase on the world markets trade between Ireland and America has moved on to other commodities. Traders are looking to see what their bulk ships can carry as grain and grain substitutes stay in America and Canada for use in the Bio fuel sector. Wood pellets have been imported at good value and are available from some port storage in the south east of Ireland. Note these will always be in bulk but savings of €100 / tonne will be made when compared to bags.
The future for wood pellets looks good as there plenty of stocks available world wide. The summer price offered to customers tends to be good value as usage slows down but production keeps going.
Remember 1lt of oil = 2kg of wood pellets in heating values.
Bulk pellets @ 22 cent / kg
Oil @ 75 c / lt
Saving of 30 cent / lt on your heating bill.
